Scarification : the new craze in body modification

When it comes to body modification then there are many different and popular forms, such as tattooing and piercing, however recently a new craze has emerged that involves scarification. This involves using different implements and methods to scar the skin permanently, think of it as a tattoo without the ink.

There are two main ways in which scarification can be completed and the first of these is branding, this involves using an incredibly hot heat source to permanently mark the skin through burning. It is a well used practice when marking animals for ownership identification for example. Again this can be divided into to processes, the first is to mark the skin repeatedly with a hot piece of metal over a drawing, and this is known in the business as “striking”. The second way is to use what is known as a “cautery pen” these are traditionally used in the medical profession to cauterize small wounds to prevent blood loss, but they have become more popular with scarification followers.

The second method of scarification is cutting and is basically what it says, a fine blade is used to permanently mark the skin and this process can often be used in conjunction with tattoo inks to give the design more color.
As with most extreme forms of body modification, then you will need to remember that the results of scarification will be with you for the rest of your life, so it is not a process that you should undergo without giving it some consideration. After all scars do not come off and only expensive plastic surgery will have any chance of putting it right. Also if you are considering having it done then you will need to visit a good and professional body modification specialist, otherwise the results may not be what you had expected.
